Program Coordinator, STATE Program


We are seeking an energetic and environmentally minded candidate who will be responsible for coordinating our teen volunteer program, which provides the student volunteers with an opportunity to connect with nonprofit organizations within the local community. The Program Director works closely with senior management to create programs and initiatives that will accomplish Avalon’s desired objectives. Specifically, tasks include but are not limited to the following:

  • Recruit student participants and accurately manage membership data
  • Plan and schedule events; participate in the creation and lead implementation of programs following the mission and purpose of STATE
  • Coordinate program events with other local nonprofit organizations that share similar mission and goals
  • Research on how to successfully, safely and effectively complete projects/programs
  • Conduct periodic program evaluations and document results
  • Report to senior management on program status, evaluation and updates
  • Implement proper safety precautions for volunteers and appropriately train volunteers on the importance of safety
  • Update website and social media platforms in accordance with Avalon policy
  • Build and nurture relationships with the volunteers, other staff and community partners
  • Assist with special projects as needed

Skills Required:

  • Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Computer and Internet savvy
  • Precise, reliable and flexible
  • Experience working outdoors, preferably with tools and equipment
  • Teacher’s certification or minimum 5 years educational teaching experience required
  • Environmental science or conservation background preferred

  • Additional Information:
  • Position reports to the Avalon Director
  • Must be able to work evening and weekend hours
  • Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License
  • Candidate must successfully complete a background check
  • Bachelor’s degree required
